Cijevna Canyon and its wider surroundings are an important bird habitat in Montenegro. The diversity of landscapes, from steep cliffs and rocky terrain to forests, open grasslands and river habitats, supports a large number of species in a relatively small area.

The ornithological importance of the area has also been recognised in the process of identifying sites important for bird conservation: the wider Kuči and Cijevna area has been identified as a potential Special Protection Area (SPA) within the Natura 2000 network. The preserved cliffs and rocky habitats of the canyon are especially valuable, providing suitable nesting and living conditions for birds of prey and other species associated with rocky habitats.

More than 100 bird species have been recorded in Cijevna Canyon to date, making it an attractive place for birdwatching and learning about birds. While walking through the canyon, visitors may observe species ranging from small woodland and open-habitat birds to birds of prey soaring above the cliffs.
