The fish fauna of the Cijevna River is characterised by great diversity and the presence of valuable native species that indicate a high degree of preservation of this aquatic ecosystem. Particularly noteworthy is the marble trout (Salmo marmoratus), one of the region’s most important and threatened salmonids, which requires exceptionally clean, cold and well-oxygenated water. Other species in the river include brown trout, chub and fish inhabiting different sections according to flow velocity and riverbed structure. Fast-flowing rocky sections favour salmonids, while calmer stretches provide habitats for other fish species. The presence of such sensitive and valuable species further confirms the ecological importance of the Cijevna River and the need to protect it from pollution, illegal fishing and other adverse impacts in order to preserve the area’s natural balance and biodiversity.
